Den bästa kattboken
Tycker jag nog fortfarande är poeten TS Eliots 'Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats. Den här dikten gick jag och rabblade för mig själv på 60-talet, alltså långt innan man gjorde musical på boken. Den är ju så allmän egendom så nog får man klistra in den i sin helhet? Måste läses halvmumlande och halvhögt……..
_The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter,
__ It isn't just one of your holiday games;
__ You may think at first I'm as mad as a hatter
__ When I tell you, a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES.
__ First of all, there's the name that the family use daily,
__ Such as Peter, Augustus, Alonzo or James,
__ Such as Victor or Jonathan, or George or Bill Bailey -
__ All of them sensible everyday names.
__ There are fancier names if you think they sound sweeter,
__ Some for the gentlemen, some for the dames:
__ Such as Plato, Admetus, Electra, Demeter -
__ But all of them sensible everyday names.
__ But I tell you, a cat needs a name that's particular,
__ A name that's peculiar, and more dignified,
__ Else how can he keep up his tail perpendicular,
__ Or spread out his whiskers, or cherish his pride?
__ Of names of this kind, I can give you a quorum,
__ Such as Munkustrap, Quaxo, or Coricopat,
__ Such as Bombalurina, or else Jellylorum -
__ Names that never belong to more than one cat.
__ But above and beyond there's still one name left over,
__ And that is the name that you never will guess;
__ The name that no human research can discover -
__ But THE CAT HIMSELF KNOWS, and will never confess.
__ When you notice a cat in profound meditation,
__ The reason, I tell you, is always the same:
__ His mind is engaged in a rapt contemplation
__ Of the thought, of the thought, of the thought of his name:
__ His ineffable effable
__ Effanineffable
_ Deep and inscrutable singular Name.

Åh jag håller med, den är fin! Och har så underfundiga teckningar också:)
